Why Georgia is different

Georgia reported 89,510 homeschooled students in 2024–25, based on GaDOE Declaration of Intent filings (reported via the Johns Hopkins Homeschool Hub Georgia page). Checked Oct 18, 2026. Population source.

3rd grade is Georgia's first test year: an appropriate nationally standardized test is required at least every 3 years beginning at the end of 3rd grade, in consultation with a person trained in norm-referenced test administration and interpretation. Keep the scores, and keep this year's annual progress report for at least 3 years. Any test cost is separate from the curriculum stack totals above (not included).

State money in Georgia — check the gate before you budget

The Georgia Promise Scholarship is gated, not general homeschool funding: for 2026–27 the program lists up to $6,500 per eligible student, and eligible students may choose home study, but eligibility requires conditions including prior Georgia public-school attendance (two consecutive semesters) or entering kindergarten, residence in an eligible low-performing-school attendance zone, and a parent who has been a Georgia resident for at least one year (Georgia Promise Scholarship, mygeorgiapromise.org, checked Oct 18, 2026). Most existing homeschoolers will not meet every gate — check your zone and history on the official site before counting any of it.

If you do use Promise with home study, Georgia home-study law still applies (annual Declaration, core subjects, 180 days / 4.5 hours, testing and progress reports). Checked Oct 18, 2026.

For families who are not Promise-eligible, no Georgia state homeschool funding was verified on GaDOE home school sources checked Oct 18, 2026 — so the full stack total above is the honest budget.
